MOT EXTENSIONS – WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?
OPTION 1: BOOK YOUR MOT TEST
Due to the lockdown being eased over the last few weeks and road users being able to get to an MOT testing station, the IGA (Independent Garage Association) has highly advised that vehicles which have been given an MOT extension from the Government due to the Covid-19 are at high risk of being unsafe to drive.
With approximately one third of cars failing their initial MOT, millions of faults will be left unrectified with vehicles being given a full six-month extension. Small defects that would have been found in the MOT test will worsen, not only leading to an increase in the number of dangerous cars on the road, but an increase in future repair costs for vehicle owners too.
We are advising our customers who have an MOT extension in place or due in the next 30 days to be MOT tested ASAP.
OPTION 2: ACCEPT MOT EXTENSION BUT MAKE SURE YOUR VEHICLE IS SAFE TO DRIVE
If you wish to accept the 6 month MOT extension on your existing MOT expiry date please be aware that your vehicle must be safe to drive.
We highly recommend that if you do not wish to book your MOT test then you should book in for a Safe To Drive Vehicle Check.
Driving an unsafe vehicle is an extreme risk to yourself and others around you.
With an increase of police presence, if you have an MOT extension in place you may be pulled over for a vehicle check. If your vehicle is found to be unsafe on the road you could be charged up to £1,000 fine.
MOT extensions are being reviewed weekly by the Government but could be lifted with one weeks notice.
ARE YOU BACK ON THE ROADS?
WE ARE OFFERING FREE RECOVERIES AND LOCAL CALL OUTS
You are responsible for making sure that your vehicle is roadworthy and safe to drive. With people slowly going back to work and more people using their cars, we have noticed an increased number of flat batteries since lock down.
We are available for recoveries and local call outs, so please give us a call if you require our services.
If you are a member of the NHS or a key worker we’ll try to prioritise your work through our workshops where possible.
